Leukaemia Care – RPS Local Practice Forum

21st February 2018 19.00-21.00

John Lister Postgraduate Centre, Wexham Park Hospital (entrance 4) Slough SL3 6LY

Over 9,000 people in the UK will be diagnosed with a leukaemia this year and while the term is well known, it is actually a rare cancer. This presents a number of challenges with recognising the vague and non-specific symptoms of leukaemia, and leukaemia patients are far more likely to be diagnosed as emergencies compared to the national cancer average.

The subsequent journey of a leukaemia patient can be shaped by late diagnosis, whether it is a direct impact on the prognosis of a patient or effects on a patient’s quality of life who is suffering from unmanaged symptoms.  In this interactive session, Leukaemia Care Campaigns and Advocacy Officer and Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL) patient, Nick York will be looking at the journey of a leukaemia patient and the role pharmacists have within this pathway. Included will be a discussion on the benefit of supporting pharmacists to better recognise and refer patients presenting with leukaemia symptoms.

Please book via the RPS website.

Note: This meeting is open to non-members and both members and non-members should be able to register via the RPS website under Thames Valley LPF.
