19th September 2018 7.00 pm refreshments for 7.30pm start, approximate finish 9pm

John Lister Postgraduate Centre, Wexham Park Hospital (entrance 4) Slough SL3 6LY)

Topic and Speaker: “Update to the March meeting on advances in the management and prevention of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias”.   The speaker, Dr Vanessa Raymont’s, interests are in traumatic brain injury, cognitive disorders and dementia, as well as clinical trials in cognitive impairment. She has a Masters degree in Cognitive Neuropsychology from University College London, and completed specialist training in general adult, old age and neuropsychiatry at the Maudsley Hospital and the Institute of Psychiatry in London. She is a senior researcher and honorary consultant psychiatrist in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Oxford, and at the Centre for Dementia Prevention in the University of Edinburgh’s Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences.

A member of her team made a presentation in March of this year on the work being undertaken in Oxford as part of the EPAD (European Prevention of Alzheimer’s Dementia) Consortium and Dr Raymont will now provide a medical update on how the research is helping develop strategies for reducing risk for dementia and how clinical services will need to adapt to this growing need. Her talk will cover updates on current management for mild cognitive impairment and dementia, as well as practical advice for patients and carers.

Note: This meeting is open to non-members who should contact Jane Nicholson advising that they wish to attend (jane@nicholj.plus.com) and indicating whether they would like refreshments.
